This class is designed to honor childhood through nature play, space for the imagination and creative thinking to come alive through art, science and mind/body connection activities to help develop the whole child.
Rooted in nature
Our community garden is Little Sprouts home base — a place where children dig into wonder, follow the pull of curiosity, and move with the quiet rhythm of the seasons.
Rhythms with purpose
We move through a monthly rhythm designed to bring variety and delight to every week. Each month, children rotate through hands-on baking, garden exploration, themed library time, music, and hands-on science discovery — a rich blend of experiences that keeps curiosity alive all season long.
Flow that reflects childhood
Each class explores a variety of topics designed to foster a love of learning and nurture children’s natural wonder and curiosity about the world around them. Topics include seasonally inspired science themes, hands-on science exploration, and open-ended play and engineering opportunities.

Seasons & Stories
This literature-based class invites students on a seasonal journey through classic storytelling as the natural world transitions from autumn to winter. Guided by the living-book philosophy of the Charlotte Mason method, students immerse themselves in high-quality literature that highlights the relationship between humans, animals, and the natural world. Blending literature with geography, hands-on science, traditional crafts, and seasonal activities, this multi-sensory course brings each text vividly to life. Students not only read about the rhythms of the natural world—they experience them, creating meaningful connections between story, season, and place as they enjoy the outdoor classroom setting of the garden.

Wearable Art
Turn art into fashion! In this creative and hands-on class, students will design and make their own wearable works of art, including jewelry, printmaking, papier-mache masks, costumes, accessories, friendship bracelets, and woven textile projects. Students will practice design, problem-solving skills, and creative expression by exploring color, pattern, texture, and design, transforming everyday materials into imaginative works of art they can wear and share.

Math Lab
Students step into the role of “math scientists” as they explore foundational math concepts through hands-on activities, games and collaborative challenges. This course is designed to make math meaningful, memorable and fun by connecting abstract concepts to real world experiences. Each session invites students to engage with math using physical tools like base ten blocks, measuring tapes, clocks, fraction tiles and play money – helping them visualize and internalize big ideas. This course goes beyond rote memorization, focusing instead on exploration and understanding. The aim is to foster confidence and encourage students to think critically and creatively about math.

Run, Jump, Play: Outdoor Fitness Fundamentals
Childhood was meant to be spent outside! This class brings back the joy of running, climbing, exploring, and playing through creative games and active challenges that make fitness feel like recess. Each week students will enjoy relay races, obstacle courses, tag games, cooperative challenges, ball games, balance activities and movement adventures that naturally develop coordination, agility, endurance and confidence. Along the way, they’ll practice teamwork, encouragement, reslience and good sportsmanship while making new friends and enjoying the outdoors. No drills. No pressure. Just movement, laughter, fresh air and the kind of active play that helps kids grow stronger – in body, mind and character.

Beginner Woodworking & Carpentry
Ignite your child’s creativity and confidence in our Little Carpenters workshop! Designed specifically for young hands, this course focuses on the fundamentals of woodworking using strictly hand tools. Students will learn the proper and safe use of hammers, measuring tapes, hand saws, and sanding blocks. In a supportive, supervised environment, we emphasize patience, precision, and the satisfaction of building something from scratch. Projects are carefully selected to be age-appropriate and engaging—think birdhouses, simple toolboxes, or classic wooden toys. By the end of the session, participants will have gained essential fine motor skills, an understanding of basic geometry and measurement, and a physical project to take home. No experience is necessary; we provide all the safety gear, sustainable wood, and tools. Come ready to measure twice and cut once!

No prior cooking experience is necessary. Whether brand new to the kitchen or already passionate about food, students will leave the semester with practical life skills, greater confidence, new recipes, and a deeper appreciation for food and cultures around the world.

Storybound: A Language Arts Adventure
Step into a year of discovery with this all-encompassing language arts class, where great novels become the gateway to essential skills. Students will practice reading comprehension, explore a variety of writing styles, and build vocabulary and grammar — all woven through engaging, story-driven learning.
Students will have work to complete at home in between each class (approx. 2hrs/wk). Novels can be read or listened to.

Science and our World
This course uses the natural world as both classroom and curriculum. Students will observe, question, investigate, and document the living systems around them through outdoor exploration, hands-on experiments, and scientific journaling across a full school year. Topics spiral through ecology, botany, zoology, geology, astronomy, weather, and the physics of nature — always anchored in direct experience with the living world. Science is treated as something we do, not just something we read about. Class is held primarily in our outdoor garden classroom.

Hand & Mind: The Craft of Game Making
This tabletop game design class combines fun and academics by having students create their own original games! Students practice language arts skills by writing clear rules and presenting their game, math skills through probability, scoring systems, and data collection, critical thinking through planning, testing, and revising their designs, and graphic design principles through learning how artwork supports a theme and provides visual clarity. The class will include analyzing and modifying existing games, learning game mechanics, creating prototypes of board or card games, playtesting, and improving their final product. A showcase day lets students present their finished game and reflect on both the gameplay and visual design choices they made.

¡Vamos a Aprender Español! Beginning Conversational Spanish
This hands-on introductory Spanish class invites kids into their first adventure with the language through classes built around music, movement, games, and crafts — no prior experience necessary. Each class opens with a song or chant, moves into guided lesson and practice time, and finishes with a craft that brings the day’s vocabulary to life, from painting with color words to decorating a tote bag, building a family tree collage, or drawing a treasure-hunt map, all while progressing through core topics like the alphabet, numbers, greetings, family, food, clothing, hobbies, and simple present-tense verbs (ser, estar, tener, ir). Students collect their favorite creations into a personal illustrated portfolio book as their final project, then celebrate everything they’ve learned at an end-of-semester fiesta with classmates.

Realistic Painting and Drawing
Learn how to create realistic three-dimensional forms, still lifes, portraits, landscapes, and fine art masterpieces. Students will develop strong foundational skills such as sketching, line control, shading, texture, color theory, and perspective. Through guided projects and classical methods, students will strengthen their observational skills and learn how to create realistic, expressive artwork while building confidence in their creative abilities.

From the innovative joinery of ancient civilizations to the timber-framing techniques that built the world’s most iconic structures, we explore the evolution of the craft and the artisans who shaped history. Students will study historical design principles and apply them to more complex, independent projects. We focus on advanced hand-tool techniques, including joinery, structural integrity, and wood selection. This course challenges students to think like engineers and artists simultaneously, fostering critical thinking and historical perspective alongside technical proficiency. Whether crafting functional furniture or decorative models, students will finish the term with a deep appreciation for the trade and the sophisticated skills to execute detailed, professional-grade work.

We emphasize the “why” and “how” behind everyday machines, fostering curiosity and problem-solving skills. This all encompassing language arts class will fulfill your middle school child’s language arts needs this school year. Through a variety of novels, we will practice reading comprehension, various writing styles, vocabulary, and grammar. We will also incorporate executive function tools to support student independence, giving them tools to be successful in school and life!

Tending Soil to Cell – Applied Life Science
This course weaves together middle school life science standards and self-sustainability skills through the lens of a working garden. Students explore cells, genetics, ecology, microbiology, and human body systems — and then immediately apply that knowledge by making models, growing food, preserving harvests, building soil, preparing medicine and feeding a community. Science is learned by doing, and doing is made richer by understanding the science behind it.
The course follows the natural rhythm of a growing season — from soil preparation in fall, through winter planning and seed starting, into spring planting, summer harvest, and preservation.
Semester 1: Foundations of life, cells, microscopy, soil biology, garden setup, ecosystems, food webs, plant medicine & preservation

Teen Strength & Agility
Build strength, improve athleticism and gain confidence in a fun, encouraging environment. This class is designed to help teens develop real fitness skills while enjoying the process. Each session includes a dynamic warm-up, functional strength training and speed and agility drills that keep students engaged and challenged. Students will learn proper technique using dumbbells, resistance bands, TRX and bodyweight exercises before applying those skills through agility courses, partner activities and fitness challenges. Every class offers a variety, helping students build strength, coordination, balance, speed and endurance without repetitive workouts. Whether your teen plays sports or simply wants to become stronger, healthier and more confident, this class provides instruction and encouragement for every fitness level. Art Through the Ages (Baroque to Contemporary)
In this class, students will learn the cultural impact of art throughout history by studying artistic production and recreating famous masterpieces. Our journey starts in the 17th century with the theatrical Baroque movement, continues through the revolutionary birth of Impressionism, and finishes with an exploration of art in the Contemporary period. This course will invite students to think critically about artwork that interests them and engage with the material by physically recreating famous art pieces from each movement. Through this hands-on process, students will sharpen their critical thinking skills, learn artistic techniques, and build confidence in their own expressive abilities.

Continuing Mechanics & Machines—Automotive Systems
Go under the hood in our Automotive Systems course. Tailored for older students, this program offers a comprehensive look at modern vehicle architecture. We move beyond general concepts to examine specific vehicle components in detail, including transmission systems, braking mechanisms, suspension, and steering geometry. The highlight of this course is a comparative analysis of powertrain technology. Students will gain a deep understanding of the mechanical complexity of internal combustion engine exploring fuel injection, combustion cycles, and exhaust systems and contrast them with the streamlined efficiency of electric propulsion and battery management systems. Through technical diagrams and component breakdown, students will analyze the trade-offs between these technologies and consider the future of automotive design. So You Think You Can Govern? – An Interactive Civics Course
1st semester: We will look at the US Constitution in depth then dive into running a presidential campaign as well as follow current events of the US Congressional election. For the campaign, we will create bumper stickers and campaign mottos, have a debate, write and deliver speeches and vote. Depending on time and interest we may do other typical campaign activities.
2nd semester: We will be Congress and write bills, have committee meetings as well as full House or Senate hearings. Then will be have a trial, do 3-judge court appellate arguments and finally be the US Supreme Court.

Your student can be a teacher’s aide, Little Sprouts buddy, work in the garden, or another job that supports the community, encourages strong work ethic, develops leadership and communication skills, and instills ownership of The Village of which they are an important part.

Stronger Together: Outdoor Fitness for Moms
Come join us in sunshine and fresh air for a dynamic and refreshing way to move, sweat, and connect with other moms! Together, we’ll use a variety of equipment — TRX, resistance bands, BOSU balls, dumbbells, and more — to keep our workouts fun, challenging, and effective. You’ll build strength, boost your cardio endurance, and improve your overall fitness, all while being part of a supportive community that shows up for each other.
This isn’t a silent, heads-down workout — it’s a chance to catch up, share a laugh, and cheer each other on between sets. You’ll leave feeling stronger in body and spirit, with a little community built in along the way.
